Who we are and what we do...

Community Energy in Pembrokeshire (CEP) is a Community Interest Company created for the benefit of all individuals and community groups dwelling or based in the county of Pembrokeshire

The Company was formed from PLANED's Community Action Planning process in 2013 to deliver renewable energy projects identified by a renewable energy opportunity study for South East Pembrokeshire, funded by PLANED and delivered by Dulas.

The objects of the Company are to:
  • carry out activities which benefit the community
  • promote all forms of energy conservation
  • promote all forms of sustainable, renewable energy

Where surpluses arise from trading in renewable energy CEP will re-invest those surpluses in installations or activities that will:
  • increase sustainability
  • reduce fuel poverty
  • reduce energy consumption
  • generate renewable energy
  • or otherwise contribute to climate change mitigation or adaptation

Connecting coastal community energy

While local and community benefit models are well-established for other renewable technologies, offshore wind presents unique challenges in this space: what constitutes “the local community” attached to an offshore wind development can be tricky to unpack, while different stakeholders have different policies and requirements for local communities, meaning that current rules around local and community benefit and ownership in offshore wind are unclear and complex.

CEP will work with existing community energy groups in the county and with partners to map out and develop a plan for communities around the county to engage with the emerging marine energy sector that is growing in Pembrokeshire.

Renewable Power Pembrokeshire

We have just completed construction of a  900kW wind generator in East Williamston,

It will produce clean renewable energy and income from the Feed in Tariff.

CEP has no shareholders and is a not-for-profit organisation.

100% of surplus funds produced by the project will be provided to community led sustainable proposals.

This has been made possible by support from the Welsh Government Energy Service, Ynni Lleol and Ynni'r Fro programmes.
